why we started

wholehearted

our purpose

Occupation is a human right.

we want to help children & adolescents with disabilities - carry out this right, when they struggle to, or are unable to do so themselves.

wait… what is ‘occupation’?

Wholehearted Support was created by two Occupational Therapy students, so we base our support work practice around the holistic approach of OT.

'Occupation' is the term used to refer to what we fill our time with, and what we personally find meaningful. These include:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) which can consist of eating or toileting etc.

  • Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) which can consist of shopping or cooking etc.

  • Activities which are other meaningful occupations such as painting or playing sport etc.

We recognise that people with disabilities, are often unable to or struggle to complete their meaningful occupations. So we created Wholehearted Support to offer a wholehearted, helping hand.

our inspiration

We were inspired by Anna's late grandmother Joan Smith, who dedicated her life to helping others. She fostered the core values of compassion and love into her family. Accompanied by her husband Roy, Joan spent over 10 years helping those less fortunate living in Papua New Guinea on mission trips. This passion for helping others is a trait that was shared with their huge family of 9 children, 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Anna being one of her grandchildren, has always looked up to her grandmother Joan, and she hopes that even a small helping hand, can make a difference in someone else's life. We dedicate this company to her, so that her passion and legacy may be continued in our own way.

SHE/HER

I am a 20-year-old student currently pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy. My professional journey initially commenced with a year studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) course. It was during this period that I discovered the field of Occupational Therapy and instantly found my passion for paediatric practice. I made the decision to transition into Occupational Therapy and I secured positions as both a Support Worker and an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the field of paediatrics. I have developed a special professional interest in clients living with down syndrome, ASD, ADHD and intellectual impairments.

SHE/HER

I am also an Occupational Therapy student currently pursuing my studies at the age of 20. Upon completing my secondary education, I embarked on a direct path towards Occupational Therapy. My academic journey has fostered my passion for paediatrics and a keen professional interest in neurodivergent clients as well as clients living with down syndrome. My pursuit of Occupational Therapy led me to secure a position as a paediatric Support Worker, an endeavour that has ignited my professional aspirations and served as a catalyst to establish a support service of my own.
